View of New Quay from near to 'Majoda' - the former home of Dylan Thomas in 1944-1945.

New Quay  - 'Cei Newydd',  with Its picturesque houses, and its many pubs and restaurants clings to the sides of the hills rising above the blue waters of Cardigan Bay on the coast of West Wales. The town has  narrow streets rising in terraces - between several of which were 'ropewalks'  for twisting rope in New Quay's heyday as a shipbuilding centre . The sheltered harbour and safe beaches  - the focus of activity in the summer  when New Quay becomes a bustling and vibrant holiday resort where sailing, fishing, watersports and relaxation, are among the main attractions.

Many  believe that New Quay is the 'cliff-perched town at the far end of Wales' immortalised by Dylan Thomas  in 'Under Milk Wood'. Dylan Thomas lived  in New Quay in 1944 in a little house called 'Majoda' atop the cliffs opposite the town. The photo above was taken from very close to 'Majoda'.  The Dylan Thomas Trail in New Quay takes the visitor to many of the places either frequented by Thomas or believed to be an inspiration for 'Under Milk Wood'. N

There are many safe sandy beaches in New Quay and nearby with interesting  Marine Life, a great variety of local accommodation including self catering cottages, caravans and campsites, Guest Houses, Bed and Breakfast, a fantastic selection of restaurants and pubs, interesting coastal walks, a multitude of Wild Flowers and always the possibility of seeing the famous Cardigan Bay Dolphins from the pier.

There are a number of interesting places to visit in the locality including the bustling University town of Aberystwyth some 20 miles to the north with its Cliff Railway, the Camera Obscura, the Vale of Rheidol Steam Railway, the Ceredigion Museum and of course the National Library of Wales.

A few miles further north is the centre for alternative Technology and Celtica - an exhibition celebrating the life of the Celts. Eighteen miles to the south is the town of Cardigan with nearby Cilgerran Castle and the beautiful Cenarth Falls.

The pretty Georgian town of Aberaeron is just eight miles to the north while just along the beautiful Aeron Valley is the National Trust House of Llanerchaeron with its extensive walled gardens.
