New Quay
- 'Cei Newydd', with Its picturesque houses, and its many pubs and restaurants clings to the
sides of the hills rising above the blue waters of Cardigan Bay on
the coast of West Wales. The town has narrow streets rising in terraces
- between several of which were 'ropewalks' for twisting rope in New
Quay's heyday as a shipbuilding centre . The sheltered harbour
and safe beaches - the focus of activity in the summer
when New Quay becomes a bustling and vibrant holiday resort where
sailing, fishing, watersports and relaxation, are among the main attractions.
Many believe that
New Quay is the
'cliff-perched town at the far end of Wales' immortalised by Dylan
Thomas in 'Under Milk Wood'.
Dylan Thomas lived
in New Quay in 1944 in a little house called 'Majoda' atop the cliffs
opposite the town. The photo above was taken from very close to
'Majoda'. The Dylan Thomas Trail in
New Quay takes the visitor to many of the places either frequented
by Thomas or believed to be an inspiration for 'Under Milk Wood'. N
There are many safe sandy beaches in New Quay and nearby
with

cottages, caravans and campsites, Guest
Houses, Bed and Breakfast, a fantastic selection
of restaurants and pubs, interesting coastal walks, a multitude of
Wild Flowers and always the

Bay Dolphins from the pier.

town of Aberystwyth some 20 miles to the north with its Cliff
Railway, the Camera Obscura, the Vale of Rheidol Steam
Railway, the Ceredigion Museum and of course the National Library
of Wales.

Technology and Celtica - an exhibition celebrating the life of the
Celts. Eighteen miles to the south is the

Cenarth Falls.
